Rangers through after Hamilton win

Steven Whittaker scored twice in extra time to send Rangers into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup with a 2-0 victory over Hamilton in their replay on Tuesday.

Having drawn the initial match 3-3, it took until the 98th minute for the defending champions to score and Whittaker grabbed another a minute later to clinch a meeting with St. Mirren next month.

"We're still in the two cups and at the top of the league," Whittaker said.

"Hopefully we will continue as we are."

But the victory came at a cost as manager Walter Smith's injury worries continue to mount.

Kenny Miller and Nacho Novo both limped out of the replay at Ibrox with hamstring and ankle injuries respectively and are both unlikely to take part in this weekend's league match against Hearts.

Top goalscorer Kris Boyd is also recovering from a hernia operation.

Elsewhere, Celtic, which was second in the Scottish Premier League, beat Morton 1-0 to setup a fifth-round meeting with second- division side Stenhousemuir.

Niall McGinn's left-footed strike after 35 minutes settled the match at Cappielow, which had been initially postponed due to snow.
